I think we may be able to do better&#8230; so I started drawing it, and actually I think we can come up with the perfect phone for travelling &#8211; between all of us we know what we need &#8211; and we have enough enough mobile people around to know what&#8217;s achievable.<\/p>\n<p>So here&#8217;s the deal &#8211; let&#8217;s use this page &#8211; leave comments and I&#8217;ll update this post &#8211; and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/groups\/1257635@N23\/\">use this flickr group<\/a> I&#8217;ve created to upload your drawings &#8211; and we&#8217;ll see how far we get, then, if I can pull it off I&#8217;ll get the little black book out and see if we can&#8217;t get some feedback from one of the manufactures&#8230;. this is going to be fun.<\/p>\n<p>This is my first stab at it<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Ideal Mobile Phone - draft 1\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3464\/3992000394_2be29722ef.jpg?resize=375%2C500\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Technology: (updated)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>8mp+ camera on back<\/li>\n<li>lq camera on front<\/li>\n<li>very loud speaker (possible use as a siren?)<\/li>\n<li>emergency aaa battery slot \/ multiple charge options &#8211; inc mini usb\n<ul>\n<li>110\/230v 50\/60hz and unregulated 12v dc supplies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>whole back should be a solar panel<\/li>\n<li>should work all over the world on all networks<\/li>\n<li>dual sim?<\/li>\n<li>exceptionally long battery life (dual mode? good battery vs performance?)<\/li>\n<li>hq \/ medium sized screen to view maps &#8211; should be anti-glare for reading on &#8211; perhaps e-ink<\/li>\n<li>GPS \/ DGPS<\/li>\n<li>External GPS antena plug<\/li>\n<li>wi-fi and bluetooth &#8211; easy to manage in power settings \/ hardware?<\/li>\n<li>LED Torch<\/li>\n<li>Hard Drive<\/li>\n<li>Video playback &amp; audio playback<\/li>\n<li>Sat phone compatibility (plug in external antenna)<\/li>\n<li>Pico Projector<\/li>\n<li>Projected keyboard?<\/li>\n<li>PLD\/ Spot device (personal locator beacon)<\/li>\n<li>OS based mapping (not internet)<\/li>\n<li>2x mini usb to attach peripherals<\/li>\n<li>normal sd card slot<\/li>\n<li>audio &amp; video recording<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Design: (updated)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>made from very hard, durable &#8216;flexable&#8217; plastic &#8211; not metal &#8211; perhaps from a hard rubber?<\/li>\n<li>&#8216;grippy&#8217; sides<\/li>\n<li>easy large buttons<\/li>\n<li>dust\/wind\/rain proof<\/li>\n<li>easy menu navigation, even in bright\/low light<\/li>\n<li>screen \/ settings change in low power mode<\/li>\n<li>Light of some sort &#8211; flash? led torch?<\/li>\n<li>d-ring<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>OS: (new)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Should be hackable<\/li>\n<li>Should allow access to an app-store<\/li>\n<li>Full PC OS \/ small cut down version?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Apps: (new)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.zeoutdoor.com\/2009\/09\/les-15-meilleures-applications-iphone.html\">ZeOutdoor list here.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Internet<\/li>\n<li>Email<\/li>\n<li>Skype<\/li>\n<li>Translation \/ phrasebook<\/li>\n<li>Guide<\/li>\n<li>iPhone navionics app<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Okay over you&#8230; what else should it have &#8211; let&#8217;s start with building out the requirements and those of you with a design bent can use the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/groups\/1257635@N23\/\">flickr group<\/a> to upload designs&#8230;..<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been inspired.
