Blessing of the Bikes, 2026
One of the highlights of the year was launching the Blessing of the Bikes in the Diocese of Exeter. Seeing so many riders come together—many meeting for the first time—reminded me why I have always loved this ministry.
I ran this event in London when I was the Chair of the famous ’59 Club – walking in the footsteps of so many priests before me. I loved how it brought together bikers from all sorts of tribes and how conversations about life, the universe, and everything then flowed.
We were lucky to be interviewed for BBC Spotlight, and as part of the coverage I was also interviewed on BBC Radio Devon & Cornwall by Mel Osborne on their Sunday morning feature on faith.
We’ll continue to build up the Blessing of the Bikes over the coming years, creating a space where riders can gather, share stories, make new friends, and receive God’s blessing for the road ahead. Motorcycling can be a deeply communal activity, but it can also prompt reflection on freedom, risk, purpose, and the journeys we all make through life.
My hope is that this annual event will become a fixture in the Devon motorcycling calendar, welcoming everyone from lifelong bikers to those who have only recently discovered life on two wheels. Whether you come for the blessing, the fellowship, the coffee, or simply out of curiosity, you’ll find a warm welcome.
After all, the Church has always met people where they are. Sometimes, that just happens to be in a car park full of motorcycles.
We look forward to seeing you next year. Ride safe, and may God bless you and keep you wherever the road leads.
